Rooted in Legacy. Driven by Community.
Tony Gwynn Legacy East (TGLE) was founded to carry forward the vision and values of Hall of Fame baseball legend Tony Gwynn—an athlete known not only for his incredible talent but for his humility, mentorship, and dedication to community. Established in 2023 and based in Southern Maryland, TGLE works to make baseball more accessible for underrepresented youth while developing life skills that prepare them for success beyond the field.
Our Pillars
Our core values shape our mission, action, and impact.
Support
We bridge the gap between talented youth and the resources they need to succeed—providing equipment, safe spaces, and guidance to help them stay in the game.
Participation
We create inclusive opportunities for youth to play and learn through baseball clinics, events, and travel team sponsorships—welcoming all skill levels and backgrounds.
Scholarship
We offer financial assistance to offset the rising costs of youth sports so that money never stands in the way of a child chasing their dream.
Community
We foster relationships that extend beyond the field, uniting parents, coaches, mentors, and businesses to uplift the next generation together.
OUR INSPIRATION
The Legacy of Tony Gwynn
Tony Gwynn was one of the most iconic and respected players in Major League Baseball history. Spending his entire 20-year career with the San Diego Padres, he was a 15-time All-Star, 8-time National League batting champion, and a 5-time Gold Glove Award winner. With a career batting average of .338, Gwynn was known for his precision at the plate and his leadership both on and off the field.
But what truly set Gwynn apart was his unwavering commitment to education and mentorship. After retiring, he became the head coach at San Diego State University, mentoring hundreds of young athletes and instilling in them the values of hard work, respect, and perseverance.
“The minute you start thinking the past is more important than the present, you’ve already started to fade.”

Powered by Women
Anisha Gwynn Jones and Mekaela Berry co-founded TGLE with a shared vision: to use baseball as a vehicle for opportunity, community, and growth. As passionate advocates for youth development, both founders bring a mix of grassroots organizing, program management, and deep love for the game.
Together, Anisha and Mekaela launched TGLE in honor of Tony Gwynn’s enduring legacy—aiming to close the equity gap in youth baseball by offering scholarships, mentorship, and experiences that shape both the athlete and the person.
